Fellowship-Trained. 15,000+ Cases. The Only Mohs Surgeon in Sumner County.

When you’re facing a skin cancer diagnosis, you need a surgeon you trust completely. Dr. Margaret Mann is a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon with over 15 years of surgical experience and more than 15,000 Mohs surgery and reconstruction cases performed — right here in Hendersonville for patients throughout Sumner County.

Dr. Mann is the only fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon in the Sumner County area. You don’t have to travel to Nashville or a major medical center for the gold-standard treatment in skin cancer surgery. It’s here.

What Is Mohs Micrographic Surgery?

Mohs micrographic surgery is the gold-standard treatment for basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma — the two most common types of skin cancer. It offers the highest documented cure rates (up to 99% for primary basal cell carcinoma) while removing the smallest possible margin of healthy tissue.

Unlike standard surgical excision, Mohs surgery is performed in stages during a single appointment. After each stage, Dr. Mann personally examines 100% of the removed tissue’s margins under a microscope before proceeding. Surgery only ends when she visually confirms that all cancer cells have been removed — not estimated, confirmed.

This precision makes Mohs surgery especially valuable for skin cancers on the face, ears, nose, lips, scalp, hands, and feet — areas where tissue preservation and cosmetic outcome are critical.

What to Expect on the Day of Your Mohs Surgery

1

Arrival

Arrive at our Hendersonville office. Plan for a half to full day —
the number of stages varies by case.

2

Local Anesthesia

Dr. Mann administers local anesthesia. The procedure is performed
under local anesthesia, so you remain awake and comfortable
throughout the surgery.

3

Tissue Removal

A thin, precise layer of tissue is removed around the visible
cancer site.

4

Microscopic Examination

You wait comfortably in our office while Dr. Mann examines the
removed tissue under a microscope during the same visit.

5

Additional Stages if Needed

If cancer cells are detected at any margin, another precise layer
is removed only from that specific location.

6

Wound Closure Planning

Once margins are completely clear, Dr. Mann plans your wound
closure with careful attention to both healing and cosmetic outcome.

7

Recovery & Follow-Up

You return home the same day with detailed wound care instructions
and a personalized follow-up plan from our team.

Note: Mohs surgery is performed in stages to ensure all cancer cells are removed while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. Because each stage requires microscopic examination, the total appointment time varies from patient to patient.

Annual Skin Cancer Screenings

The AAD recommends annual full-body skin exams for adults. You may need more frequent screening if you have a personal or family history of skin cancer, significant sun exposure, fair skin or light eyes, many moles, or a history of tanning bed use.

Our skin cancer screenings include a full-body exam by Dr. Mann or one of our physician-supervised PAs.

We check every area of skin systematically. If a concerning spot is found, we can often perform a same-day biopsy so you leave with answers — not just questions.
